CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Carolyn McCarthy & Jodi Spicer
This was the first of three courses required to earn an Educational Technology Certificate and the one that started it all. In this course I created my Twitter account and learned some of the basics of Twitter. I was also introduced to Google Docs, which is something I use on a regular basis now, both personally and professionally. For the main assignment in this course, we were broken into small, special-interest groups. My group focused on Flipping the Classroom, which is a hot topic in education today.

CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education
Nancy Ayers & Jodi Spicer
The second certificate course was all about using various technologies in the classroom to improve student learning. I developed a Stand-alone Instructional Resource that reviewed the concept of factoring with the students. I was able to use in my Algebra class later that year and it was very helpful for many of my students. I was also introduced to the concept of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in this course. Our school has adopted the UDL principles this year and this course allowed me to be one step ahead of the game.

CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
Alison Keller, William Marsland, & Leigh Wolf
This final certificate course focused on using different educational technologies to tackle some common issues in education. Many of the assignments in this course were building blocks for our semester-long project: solving a “Wicked Problem” in education. The problem I chose was to not only successfully but meaningfully integrate the iPad into daily classroom use. Throughout the assignments in this course, I created and deployed online polls, interpreted the data and found online tools for data visualization, and even created a Flipped Professional Development presentation with a group of classmates.

CEP 800: Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings
William Cain, Danah Henriksen, & Punya Mishra
This was one of the three courses taken during the year two Hybrid Program over the summer of 2013. Much like the title states, this course focused on traditional classrooms as well as online learning. Our discussions ranged from why students don't like school to how we can adjust our teaching for different types of learners. Learning does not just take place in a school, but also at work, home, and within the community. We worked in our small groups to look at key ideas and classroom implications from the book Why Don't Students Like School? by Daniel T. Willingham. We also created individual grant proposals that incorporates technology meaningfully into the classroom setting.

CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
William Cain, Danah Henriksen, & Punya Mishra
This was the second of the three courses in the year two Hybrid Program. This course focused on some of the key topics in technology and education. Our class was broken into smaller groups for this project. Each group chose one of five key topics in technology and education to create an annotated bibliography for resources about that topic. Our group researched some of the Social and Ethical Uses of Technology and created a website to share our findings.

CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
William Cain, Danah Henriksen, & Punya Mishra
This was the last of the three course in the year two Hybrid Program. This course connected educational research and the ability to analyze a person's explanation and understanding of a topic. We worked in our small groups to identify an educational research topic that is typically misunderstood. The goal of this project was to understand peoples’ thought processes and their understanding of some commonly misunderstood concepts. We created a list of research questions, asked them to a select group of people, and analyzed the results.

CEP 820: Teaching Students Online
Anne Heintz & Sandra Sawaya
Throughout this course we looked at different Learning Management Systems and chose one for hosting an online/hybrid course that we would be creating. I developed a module to use for a Hybrid Physics Support class. I used Blackboard as my Learning Management System, as it is the LMS supported by my district. This Blackboard course was designed to assist students who were already enrolled in a Physics course, but needed a little extra help and guidance.

CEP 807: Capstone in Educational Technology
Matthew Koehler
This course provided me the opportunity to reflect on my Master of Arts in Educational Technology Program as well share many of the assignments created along the way. Throughout the course I developed an online portfolio. This professional portfolio provided the platform to showcase assignments that I created in various courses through the MAET Program. I also wrote three essays to look back at the goals I set before I started the MAET Program, what I did along my MAET Journey, and forward to future possibilities after receiving the MAET Degree.

TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Amanda Smith
This course focused on literacy at all different levels, kindergarten - grade 12. During this course we had a major project called "Literacy Learner Analysis". We chose a student and gave them a reading level test and determined what grade level they were reading at and what they struggled with when it comes to literacy. We then developed and taught two lessons to our student and were able to analyze their learning (and our teaching of literacy skills). TE 846 also meets Michigan State Department of Education's requirements for Professional Teaching Certificate renewal.
